Cinderbloom Thickets
Tephrotic Nightmares · p.115 · 3p
Open source p.115Something coiled above the grey dune-waves, like thick, black barbed wire, tattered umber-orange flowers skewered amongst the thorns. It stretches on for miles, the colony competing with itself to grow. The Ash below is fixed by the roots, enriched by rot and water. Eventually, these plants could restore solid ground. They contain a microecology of insects and birds with gangly legs, perched above the thorns, their songs carried far on the wind.
The Pneumatic Order pays 3dw for the
birds—they love eating them live, faces
cowled in blessed cloth.
The clerks of the Cannibal Count pay
4dw for a jar full of insects—they skewer
them on their entomology boards.
The Burnt Offerings and the Urniversity
both pay 5dw for each fire set—one
simply wants to see plants die, the
other wishes to forestall change in the
environment whilst they study.
Ashmouth Raiders gather the
thorns, studding themselves with
them. Some try and dance atop
the thicket, feet slick with blood.
If left alone, the thicket will turn
the Sea to soil in ~100 years.
