A dusty dry insect bred with the form of a stack of human bodies, eight arms, eight shoulders. Shed skin like a funeral shroud, coarse needle-hairs. Compound eyes and a proboscis, twitching. Always the droning—both Guthlac and their little-cousins, a Throne of Flies, a cushion about them. It is these lesser relatives that step to the harvest— draining the moisture from your skin with bites, bites, bites. Guthlac watches, unless you have the plants they crave. Then you may pass free.
