Rumours have spread to the neighbouring provinces and the king has sent about twenty knights and two hundred men-at-arms in case there is any truth to them. They are encamped two days' ride from the city. For the time being, they have orders not to intervene, and above all not to provoke a diplomatic incident with the free cities.
