The zombies remain this way

in fact a flashing lamp of un-
fathomable alien technology.

9 Dead giant
Having come down from the
mountains to die, a giant (20
meters tall, his naked body
covered with green tattoos,
and with long white beard) lies
on a bed of pine trees that were
crushed in his fall. Apparently,
he died of old age, only a few
days ago. His body has become
a feast for hundreds of red
crows (see p. 13), who relish
his flesh noisily. A gigantic
gold earring still hangs from
his left ear (worth enough to
live like a princess for several
weeks). Anyone approaching
is surrounded by red crows,
who attack unless they leave
immediately.

In a small vale, beside a
spring, a makeshift tent and a
campfire. Traces of a struggle.
Further away, in a tree, a spi-
derweb cocoon hangs. Inside
is Lainia, semiconscious. One-
in-two chance that a giant
spider is hiding higher up in
the tree.

R Lainia (once healed):
- “My father saw your demon. He freed it from its metal sphere.”
- “My father picked up two engraved alloy plates. He'd never seen
anything like these! I know where he hid them. Free him, and I'll
tell you.”
- “The shambling dead leave their graves at this time of year.
Beware!”
- “Never saw this kind of spider before. Not from around here,
I'd wager.”

Hunting Camp
Set at the top of a small hill at the foot of a large black rock.
Two tents, a campfire, bales of hides, and wooden frames for
skinning game.
The hunter twins, Bort and Gort, sharpen their knives and
prepare to skin their “special game”, currently hanging in a
net from a tree: Archenar's messenger, dying of numerous
wounds.
(If the party is followed by giant spiders – see encounter
table – they attack now.)
