King of Wands

The City maintains a strained relationship with sorcerers. In some ways, it’s like nuclear power. People like electricity, reducing pollution, and lower energy costs, but they hate the big nuclear reactor ticking away in their backyard. It’s the same thing with magic.

The Court of Wands is the City’s attempt to control sorcerers. Magical crimes, such as unleashing maleficence or casting spells upon citizens, are punished by the Court of Wands. Rogue sorcerers are hunted down and dispatched by the Court without mercy. The sorcerous population of the City consent to this scrutiny because they understand that true conflict with the powers of the City would be disastrous.

The Court of Wands district is austere and sequestered, a tiny city-within-a-city. Its population is mostly sorcerers, which means that it is diverse and utterly weird. Few others dare to visit this district.

Tylwyth is spoken by most of the population in this district.

Sensations:

The architecture is bleak and unadorned. In contrast, the population is outrageous in style of dress, fetish ornamentation, and body modification. Loud voices argue with each other inside barren stone halls. Those that are magically inclined can feel the power kept checked here, like energy in a coiled spring.

Special City Action:

  • Join the Court of Wands: For 100g in dues, you may join the ranks of the Court of Wands. You are given an archwood staff. This can both be wielded as a polearm (p. 170) and release blasts of magical energy using the Gramarye talent.
