In the days of the pagan god-kings, the sect of the God’s Wives—made up of intersex and third gender persons—wielded enormous political influence. Their status was sacred: it was death for one outside their order to touch them. Today, the old temple is in ruins, but the district remains a haven for those who fall outside of the gender binary. These diverse peoples band together as a community in the Temple district to avoid unwelcome attention or political persecution. Importantly, the traditions of the old cult are still passed on as folklore in this district. There is much wisdom found in the sayings of the elders.
Sensations:
Like most of the City, the old is incorporated into the new. Ancient statues celebrating the blending of the male and the female are kept in coats of fresh, vivid paint. The stucco buildings are covered in painted shells. Wisteria is blooming. Dancing is accompanied by the sound of drums and a flute.
Special City Action:
- Exchange gifts: An ancient tradition of hospitality is still practiced in this district: a gift is given for a gift received. Sometimes this is intentionally comedic: rubbish exchanged with pomp and circumstance. Sometimes this is a meaningful ceremony.
Tell the GM what gift you are giving away. Test Cups. On a failure, you receive a small, funny item. On a success, you are given a random antique. The GM will tell you what it is.
