The clockwork mechanisms that define the Augury exceed contemporary science. It’s like the Antikythera mechanism taken to a castle scale, with rooms of gears and cogs housed by limestone walls. Its intended purpose is bafflingly obscure. The only signifying elements are found in three separate orreries, which depict detailed but utterly alien skyscapes. However, clever dungeon denizens and adventurers have found many seemingly unintended uses for the Augury. Time seems especially fickle here. Food doesn’t spoil, but molds grow quickly. Hours seem to pass in minutes. Bright light causes paper to act photoreactive, capturing shadow imprints. Is this obscure mechanism responsible for the strange temporal features of the Underworld?
