Trump XVI — The Tower

The Underworld is the cradle and grave of all things, including concepts. Like Plato’s theory of forms, the Underworld births ideaspace—the manifestation of physical forms in their most idealized shape. The idea of buildings was first had by the Underworld, and in its dark dreams, the germ has taken root and spread into an infestation of hallways, a riot of walls, flowering gables, and endless chambers. Unburdened by the constraints of reality, the House of Many Angles folds and unfolds itself like an origami castle. Hallways loop impossibly into each other. Changing the geometry of a single room might change the shape of the entire complex.

Sights

Architecture of a thousand different styles all jammed together. Rooms are laid out in improbable ways, like they were designed by H. H. Holmes.

Sounds

The acoustics of the rooms are at once beautiful and strange. If your companions whisper on the far side of the room, you can clearly hear it, but there’s a sense of yawning space above you that feels crippling. Occasional grinding sounds hint that, when unobserved, other rooms in the House are rearranging themselves.

Smell and taste

Strangely sterile air.

Lighting

None.

Structures

There is no consistency between chambers. Some are made of sturdy pine wood painted black. Some are rough-hewn logs of extinct trees. Some are made of fitted stones.

Common monsters

Deconstruction Imps, Gargoyles, Dire Centipedes, Prolapsedogs, Inverted Horses, Face Rats, Non-Euclidean Snakes
