Trump XIV — Temperance

The sphinxes whisper of a time before there were multitudinous species—droves of oxen, murmurations of starlings, schools of fish, prides of lions. Before that, there was only His Majesty the Worm. In His loneliness, He dipped his claws into the Well of Souls and brought forth singular creatures. Things unique, with no others of their kind. These things were subsequently forbidden from the Wide World, and so have been trapped in the Underworld. Each chamber is home to a thing utterly unique, with unique treasure, a uniquely sad story, and a unique danger.

Sights

Moving from the Dajjal’s room to the Simurgh’s room is like moving from night to day. The gloomy caverns give way to a vaulted room lit with a crystalline pillar shining like the sun. The white roots of weirwood trees provide the Simurgh a roost. On the far wall, heavy chains forbid egress to the Tarasque’s chamber.

Sounds

Various. The dolorous sound of Echidna’s glass organ is never far away.

Smell and taste

Various. Each room has a particular odor.

Lighting

Various. Some rooms are dark, some are well lit.

Structures

Various. The majority of the rooms are caverns of unworked stone, though different creatures have special structures designed to comfort their peculiar shapes.

Common monsters

None.
