The Pits

If you think that the Underworld is merely the home of death, you are mistaken. It is teeming with life. In fact, that is one of the Underworld’s peculiar facets: death comes slowly here. One of the most animated levels of the Underworld is the Pits. The breeding ground for mutant albino ratmen, these tunnels are teeming with life. Quick lifecycles mean that generations are born, grow old, and die in the space of a week. The Rat King hosts blood sports in his filth-filled colosseum for his own amusement.

Sights

Honeycombed holes in a natural cavern inspire trypophobia. They each ooze with pale slime, like a weeping sore. Below, a breeding pit swarming with bodies. A riot of flesh.

Sounds

A ceaseless chattering and squeaking and gnawing and chewing and scurrying.

Smell and taste

An almost unbearable acrid, ammonia reek.

Lighting

Ratmen use smoky torches to light their halls with dim light. Otherwise dark.

Structures

Natural caverns and narrow tunnels, all slick with slimy mold and filth.
