Although the supply chain and logistics are impossible to manage, a colony of underfolk have settled near this lode in an attempt to try and mine it. Unfortunately, mithril mining is incredibly unhealthy. Though mining has made the Truesilver Forge colony rich, it has also made them deeply disturbed. They’re suspicious and suffer hallucinations. Anybody who spends too long on this level begins to suffer these effects as well. Sorcerers should note that mithril increases the potency of magic (kind of like nega-iron). The presence of so much mithril at this level has strange, unpredictable effects on spells.

Sights

Veins of mithril glow dully in the rock. A thin river of molten lava bifurcates the level, feeding into an elaborate stone trench to heat a dwarf-made forge.

Sounds

The tireless falling of mattocks and shovels. Blast furnaces roaring. An argument, a wet thud, hysterical laughter mixed with weeping.

Smell and taste

A chemical smell like ozone.

Lighting

Chambers are lit 50% of the time with red-glass lamps. Hallways are unlit.

Structures

Man-made tunnels that connect natural caverns. Inconsistent, sloped flooring. Wooden supports hold weak ceilings up; wooden bridges span gaps.

Common monsters

Hallucination Imps, Argyric Underfolk, Quicksilver Slimes, Dire Ants, Mutant Canaries

Dungeon lord
