The White Gardens
Dungeon SeedHis Majesty the Worm · p.362
Open source p.362In the sunless reaches, light has taken on strange forms. Bizarre breeds of mushrooms have learned to shed illumination as white and cold as the stars. The light lures creatures into the sprawling groves of fungi who quickly become addled, poisoned, and lost. Their bodies go on to provide nutrients to the White Gardens. The White Gardens are fields of dungeon mushrooms growing in a series of natural caverns. Some of the mushrooms are so soft and small that they resemble translucent grass covering the subterranean floor. Others are tuberous and as large as trees. Still others still have a dim cunning and hate the rival kingdoms of plants, animals, and bacteria.
Sights
Caverns vary wildly in size, swelling to the size of cathedrals and contracting to unnavigable seams through the stone. On almost every surface, fungi resembling sea anemones wave their spongy polyps.
Sounds
The drip of water. The occasional hiss of a mushroom releasing its spores.
Smell and taste
The air is damp. There’s a pungent earthy smell. Clouds of spores smell fishy and taste like mustard.
Lighting
Bioluminescent mushrooms shed LED-white light. This counts as bright light.
Structures
The cavern’s walls and floors are the consistency of pocked corral. The corral is a bone-white color.
Common monsters
Spore-choked Imps, Fungoids, Dire Crabs, Shrieker Mushrooms, Polytechnic Polyspores, Spore Zombies
