Dirtnap Dunes

A barren, sandy swath of land known for its rolling dusty dunes, teeming with wild flocks of ZOZO BIRDS and the WEORGS that prey upon them. There are no towns or population centers in the Dirtnap Dunes, however there is a single ZOZO BIRD ranch, managed by a shrym named Darley. The name Dirtnap refers to the shifting quicksand pits that make traveling over the dunes treacherous. An uncareful traveler is liable to sink and be buried alive. The ZOZO BIRDS thrive in the dunes because of their light step and wide, springy feet that keep them from sinking.

DARLEY

A shrym who runs Darley's Dune Ranch. Darley lives a hard life chasing off rustlers and weorgs. She spends her days feeding and grooming her glorious zozo birds, which is tricky work, as the birds can be ornery.

ZOZO BIRDS have been disappearing. At first, Darley thought it was WEORGS, on account of that nasty Ulgos the Blackmane (L10-C). But it turns out bird rustlers have stolen Darley's prized stock. Last Darley saw, the bird rustlers rode away south of the dunes.

• A pack of WEORGS, led by Ulgos the Blackmane, patrols the Dirtnap Dunes.
• Quicksand has killed more people in the dunes than any beast.
• ZOZO BIRD rustlers are harassing Darley's Dune Ranch and stealing her birds.
• The rustlers are Soot Finger THIEVES (L5-G) who answer to the corrupt Paladin Mong at Fort Bulwark (p343) and Lady Shareen in Crickstop (p232).
• The gang is stealing the birds to outrun wagons on their increasingly frequent caravan heists.
