Nameless Lake
LocationMucklands Sandbox Campaign Setting · p.46
Open source p.46A huge placid lake that some say is a mile deep. Nameless Lake is the ancestral home to both the sarpathi and the scumseers. Though the lake is beautiful, superstitions and local legends keep most locals and travelers away. Beneath its calm waters, the ruins of a forgotten city lie untouched for thousands of years.
The real danger are the skirmishes between the sarpathi and scumseers as they vie for control of the lake. Likewise, many report seeing and hearing strange phenomena at night, horrible bloodcurdling sounds and bright flashes of sorcery.
what's going on
- The Lake is a placid, calm body of water that barely stirs even when touched by the wind off the southern sea. But, deep at the bottom of the lake nearest to the Snake Shrine is a tunnel entrance to the underground ruins of a sarpathi city (p54).
- Scumseers also want the lake ruins as their home, but the sarpathi have the edge, pushing the SCUMSEERS towards the west side of the lake, and up towards the surface.
JAELA THE RED AXE

quests
THE POISONED KNIGHT
A Felmog Outrider named Jaela the Red Axe sits panting against a rock a few hundred yards from the lake. She has been POISONED by sarpathi arrows, and will die if she doesn't get an antidote soon. If cured, she offers her eponymous Magic red axe.
- If the PCs fail to get her the antidote in time, but still take her axe, they are randonly CURSED.
- If the PCs save her, she reveals the entrance to the lost sarpathi city (p54).
- The Red Axe: On a 9+ Hit, the target suffers BLEEDING. Once every session, the axe can cut through any non-magical material like butter.
SCUMSEER RECLAMATION
A SCUMSEER named Ul'karopth comes in peace, beckoning the PCs from the edge of the lake. They ask you to draw out the sarpathi from the lake onto the land, distracting them while the SCUMSEERS strike below the depths.
- The PCs must hold out for 10 rounds against a horde of SARPATHI REAVERS (L2-G) and three SARPATHI HIEROPHANTS (L3-C), or else the SCUMSEER force is routed and pushed back to the far corner of the lake.
- If the PCs are successful, not only do they discover the entrance to the sarpathi lair, the leader of the SCUMSEERS, Glur'ganus, casts a spell that bestows Courage permanently, but anyone who fails a Mettle Check gains the Flaw: “Take what is mine at all costs.”
THE NAMELESS FISH
A DWEORG fisher named Myrga offers to pay Silver Coins if you help her catch five Nameless fish, a rare breed unique to the Nameless Lake. She needs enough fish oil to stave off a rare dweorg sickness that's affecting her sister and others in Yrr'ghgrg.
- Each time anyone fails a Fishing Check, a group of SARPATHI REAVERS (L2-G) or SCUMSEERS (L3-G) attack from the lake.
- Not only does Myrga need the fish, but she needs help delivering the oil to her sister in Yrr'ghgrg because Myrga is an outcast. If any DWEORG found out she was doing this, her sister would be cast out as well.
