what's there

THE BLACK SHALLOWS

The gummy shoreline of Tarmurk. Anyone without proper galoshes gets stuck in no time. At the north end of the lake is a previously abandoned swamp rig that now roars with life after Krog & Sons Inc. put it back into commission. The machine sputters and clanks, practically DEAFENING anyone near it.

  • The oil rig's incessant noise draws a group of MUCKMEN (L3-G) to it twice a day.

DEEP MURK

The center of the lake is incredibly deep. But due to the tar, there is little to no visibility and it is in the deepest places where the Great Tar Beast lurks.

  • The Great Tar Beast is actually an aged RIVERSAUR (L8-C) covered in tar, but this is almost impossible to discern. The MUCKMEN believe it is one of their own.
  • The beast has amassed a Mythic Hoard () at the bottom of Tarmurk.

quests

THE SWAMP RIG

Krog & Sons employees operate a massive oil rig platform, which looks to be on the brink of exploding as it pumps oil from the tar lake. Taskmaster Duck MucDonahee barks orders at his workers, while they struggle to repair the machine and fend off a group of MUCKMEN. He's desperate for help to fix the rig, fight the muckmen, or preferably both! What, you want payment? Fine! Anything! Just help!

  • Subterranean Pits and Lairs LLC. actually abandoned the rig after incessant MUCKMEN attacks killed most of their workforce.
  • Taskmaster MucDonahee is working under extreme conditions and needs to send a positive report back to Krogland or he'll get fired. The goblin has six kids to feed and put through school! The max he can pay the PCs is Gold Coins, but he tries to lowball them.

DELVING FOR FOSSILS

A shrym Puddlejumper archeologist named Linell Tailspin built a sputter-drone to explore the depths of Tarmurk in search of fossils. The drone is remote- controlled but requires incredible hand eye coordination to steer using its radar interface, and Linell's got the shakiest hands! Help Linell control the drone and use its claw to unearth 10 fossils.

  • Nimbleness Check to grab fossils with the claw.
  • 1-2. The Great Tar Beast is disturbed!
  • 3-5. MUCKMEN attack!
  • 6-8. Fossil found, but to subsequent Check.
  • 9-11. Fossil found.
  • 12+. Two fossils found, and there is evidence of treasure deep in the lake (see Deep Murk).
