The Old Graveyard

Hex 5.13. A small field of ancient headstones atop a rolling hill. Very old and usually avoided, there was once a quiet beauty here, as flowers bloomed and verdant moss grew upon the headstones bearing heroic names like Holdar, Shinara, and Kandor. But without caretakers, the graveyard has been defaced and ransacked by hooligans and thieves, littered with trash and refuse. Worst of all, the most magnificent grave site, the statue of Garo Tandring, a mighty hero gripping a hefty axe and smiling beneath a long, bushy beard, has been toppled.

SHINARA

The GHOST (L6-C) of an ancient warrior who, along with her fellow heroes buried at the graveyard, slew a tyrannical dragon that burned the old forest that once covered the Mucklands. Almost no one remembers Shinara, but in her day she was beloved and known for her mighty greatsword and lust for life.

• Traits: Angry, melancholy, wistful for her past adventures.
• Motivation: Recover her stolen shield that she might rest again.

SHINARA'S WRATH

A great blue apparition of a seven foot tall woman with flowing dark hair wielding a greatsword, rises from the earth and attacks a group of graverobbing boggles.

• The boggles are THIEVES (5xL4-G), having just dug up Shinara's grave. They are scrambling to steal the treasures within, tossing the old moldy bones aside.
• If the PCs help the boggles fight off Shinara the GHOST (L6-C), they share half their Ancient Hoard.
• If the PCs help Shinara or eventually realize she's been robbed, Shinara implores the PCs to find and return her shield—without it she cannot rest. Grave robbers bearing the crest of the Iron Sun, a Felmog Order, stole it not long ago.
• Shinara's shield is now in the possession of the BANDITS at Castle Gannish (p52), specifically Boss Shryke's lieutenant Hobnail Jak.

what's going on

• Grave robbers have made a mess and disturbed the fallen heroes buried at this site. A few boggle grave robbers are in the middle of digging up treasures buried at Shinara's grave.
• All who enter the Graveyard are immediately CURSED by the toppled statue of Garo Tandring (-5 maximum Courage).

rumors

• The Old Graveyard was looted by the Knucklebone Bandits.
• The heroes buried in the Old Graveyard are from another age when magic ruled the world. Messing with those graves will curse your whole family!

THE FALLEN HERO

A feeling of despair and shame emanates from the toppled statue of Garo Tandring. A once mighty tribute to a great hero, now desecrated and cracked.

• If the statue is erected again (no easy task as it's incredibly heavy and made of VOLCANITE metal), the CURSE is lifted from the PCs and the graveyard.
• On a cracked tablet beneath the statue is a riddle: “In my name, warlords claim, but these are blustery lies. The truest form I take is generous and wise.”
• Answer: Courage.
• HEROIC TITLE ACHIEVEMENT: Erect the statue and answer the riddle correctly.
• The Spirit of Garo Tandring•. Gain +1 Courage. Once every session, gain Advantage on a Might Check.
