Unassailable Co. Headquarters
LocationMucklands Sandbox Campaign Setting · p.357
Open source p.357Hex 19.14. Unassailable Co. is a company best known for how well it keeps secrets. That, and its unassailable mazes and dungeon complexes that guard those secrets and treasures. Their main headquarters is accessible from the Used T'Be Forest by means of an above ground office complex mounted with a massive, high-powered cannon. The inner sanctum of the headquarters is entirely underground, a highly-guarded dungeon compound rife with deadly traps. Only those with security clearance can freely bypass the gauntlet of death that protects the company's inner sanctum and their clients' treasures.
what's going on
- Unassailable Co. has quickly ascended as one of the top corporations in all the Mucklands in just a few short years.
- Their Founder and Chief Strategist, Mr. Pring, is incredibly reclusive and only makes public appearances during new product unveilings.
- Unassailable has secured their future by making a secret alliance with the sarpathi. In exchange for wealth and resources, the sarpathi relentlessly attack Unassailable Co.'s business competition and sow chaos in the world. All the better to bring clients to their doors for protection.
MR. PRING
The unchallenged master of Unassailable Co., a mysterious first-nameless goblin with “a face that tells-no-tales,” as his minions would share. Pring is a soft- spoken, gaunt tycoon with a reputation for meticulousness.
- Traits: Unflappable, humorless, impossible to read.
- Motivation: Total control of all industry in the Mucklands.
sights and sounds
1. Three employees in suits walk stone faced out of a door and make no eye contact with the PCs.
2. A klaxon sounds and flashing red lights go off in the hallways as a group of employees run down the far corridor.
3. A huge wug with singed eyebrows and smoking skin nonchalantly asks for help to pull out the arrows and darts from his back.
4. A goblin opens a door to a room full of commandos sword training, and shuts it saying, "Oops. Wrong room."
5. Two goons drag a MUTANT away as it babbles incoherently.
6. You spot a roguish looking scamp in the shadows. They make eye contact and put a finger up to their lips, "Shhh..."
rumors
- Ood the Invulnerable might actually be more than invincible, but also immortal. It's all part of Mr. Pring's plan to capture the wug's essence for himself!
- DWEORGS ransacked an Unassailable Co. vault in Fleabag County, stealing a rare stone egg that may or may not be one of the last dragon eggs in Eem.
- Unassailable Co. has aligned with nefarious entities to get a leg up in the race for dungeoneering supremacy.
- The company hires “testers” to overcome their insane dungeons. The pay is great, assuming you make it to the end in one piece.
- Unassailable Co. has a secret vault filled with riches and wonders beyond anyone's wildest dreams.
MS. EZMARELD HAGULA
An ancient kobold WITCH responsible for all of hex and blood magic associated with Unassailable Co.'s most expensive services. Her lab resides deep in their Underlands headquarters, where she remains most of the time, except for rare trips to Crazy Urny's testing labs, where she purchases deathtrap components.
- Traits: Curious, self-interested, highly impatient.
- Motivation: Create the perfect blend of machine and magic devices.
OOD THE INVULNERABLE
The official Unassailable Co. test subject. Ood is a wug of improved intelligence and stamina, who is by all accounts entirely indestructible. Unfortunately, Ms. Hagula has never been able to recreate the experimental hex and potion combination that blessed the wug with such gifts. Ood is a prize at Unassailable Co. and lives a life surrounded by bards, jesters, books, and the best food treasure can buy.
- Traits: Aloof, spoiled, bored with his strict routine.
- Motivation: Despite having every comfort, he'd like to get out and see the world.
quests
HAZARD PAY
Ood the Invulnerable hasn't been feeling himself lately, so the company is hiring freelancers to test out a brand new dungeon. If you survive, you'll be paid 2 pouches of Gold Coins.
- The PC must complete a RANDOM DUNGEON.
THE RUNNERS
Mr. Pring needs a group of discreet delivery people to carry an item across the Mucklands, all the way to an Unassailable Co. agent in Anchorbottom in Scalawag Strand (p289). Under no circumstances are you to open the case!
- If the PCs open the case, they recognize the shimmering dark red crystal as an Eye of Ehk. With a successful Lore Check, the PC can tell it's a fake.
- As the PCs travel across the land, a whole host of factions attack, all having received intel that this fake Eye of Ehk is the real thing.
- Group of SARPATHI REAVERS (L6-G) and a SARPATHI HIEROPHANT (L7-C).
- FELMOG KNIGHTS (3×L5-B).
- The Stump Witch's MERCENARIES (4×L4-G, 1×L4-C).
- Meanwhile, Unassailable Co. sent a group of RIVAL DUNGEONEERS (L5-B) to deliver the real Eye of Ehk (The Gazing Eye) to the sarpathi at the Snake Shrine in the Drippy Downs (p37). They arrive there in 6 days.
SECRET DOORS
Apparently, Crazy Urny has developed a Secret Door Locator, capable of identifying the location of any Nearby secret door. Hagula wants the device for herself and to prevent competitors from finding the multitude of Unassailable Co. secret doors. She offers a random Magic item for it.
- Crazy Urny was last seen within Marshgate Mansion, but he's been kidnapped by sarpathi (see quest Convincing the King p340). The Secret Door Locator has also been stolen.
- The Secret Door Locator doesn't work exactly as intended. It identifies secret doors, but then a random person comes out of the door, transported from who knows where.
- Roll and the following creatures or characters pass through the door:
- 1-5. Random CREATURE.
- 6-11. Random NPC.
- 12+. Evil clone (possibly with a goatee) of a random PC.
