While they can spawn in warm marshes and standing pools, these worms prefer to grow in the digestive juices of large beasts and creatures. If a smaller creature like a human is plagued by these parasites, however, the pile worms cause extreme discomfort and grow rapidly until escaping through their host's mouth. Plyxian pile worms are named after a location of legend, Plyx, where it is said that the primordial titans and ogres of ancient times were birthed.

Plyxian pile worms go rigid when doused in vinegar. Some creatures like ettins and giants make big jars of pickled worms and eat them as a treat.
