THE DUNNUM FAMILY
A family of overachievers led by their matriarch, Debbie Delila Dunnum III, who along with her five daughters enjoy a prosperous lifestyle renting out riverboats and fishing equipment to folk throughout the Hamlets. Debbie's five daughters: Darla, Marla, Carla, Varla and Boo are often seen around town practicing their musical instruments, mastering archery, practicing mathematics, wrestling the Miceburgers, or painting breathtaking vistas.
- Traits: Multi-talented, humble braggarts, look down on others.
- Motivation: Raise a family of Capstan Champions, even if the kids aren't that into it.
THE GRUBBER FAMILY
A cantankerous old pair of siblings, Irving and Urza inherited their fishing spot years ago when their ancestor Baron Grubber, a low-ranking barony noble, won the rights in a card game. The Grubber's have been fishing the spot ever since, complaining that they never should have left Capstan or lost the only proof of their lineage.

THE MICEBURGER FAMILY
A family of dairy farmers and cheesemongers, Doyle and Murtha Miceburger are the parents of five boys ranging in age from 7 to 17. They all live in a shack with an overgrown yard despite being quite successful in their crafts. The Miceburger boys are a rowdy bunch of bullies that terrorize the other children in the Hamlets.

quests
THE BARON'S RING
The Grubber siblings are fighting more than ever. Their bickering and dish-shattering has turned the quiet village of Cheesehollow into a battleground. They've had enough with fishing and want to move to Capstan to rejoin the River Barony, but their father's Barony ring is the only thing that can prove their lineages, and it's missing! Find their ancestral ring and end the decades old fight. In return, they'll part with a trove of Mundane items in their shed.
- The last place either Grubber saw the ring was when they were hauling in a fresh catch at the Cheewater Crick a few days ago.
- A boggart fisherman called Judd at Cheewater dock has no idea about any ring, but sure is angry that a goat is eating his lunch again. In fact, Judd demands the goat be brought to justice for eating anything and everything it gets its mouth on.
- The goat in question is romping around the riverbank, and being stalked by a giant, hungry BRAYING SABERFISH (L4-C). Turns out the goat is named Walter and is the lost pet of the Cooperson Family in Goatwater (p206).
- Walter swallowed Baron Grubber's Ring and will eventually poop it out if encouraged to do so with creative solutions or patience.
- The Coopersons are extremely thankful for returning their beloved family pet.
THE DEADLY DARE
Branson Miceburger, bully of the Hamlets, has been missing for weeks and no one knows where he went. The Miceburger family hired a family friend, an adventurer named Big Darla, to find him, but now Darla is missing too.
- Several of the Shucks, Mammy, and Dunnam kids might actually know where Branson went. He was always bragging about how he'd leave the Hamlets and get rich and famous as an adventurer. So they dared him to go into the Slimy Burrow (p259), but were afraid to get in trouble if they told anyone the truth.
- Branson was a bully braggart who terrorized the other kids in the Hamlets. No one is exactly bent out of shape that he's gone, and they were also hoping that maybe he finally went to make his fortune in Fleabag County like he always threatened to do.
- Big Darla is currently being kept as a pet by an albino CRAWLBAD called Old Ivory in the Slimy Burrow.
goatwater
A sleepy community of crafters, farmers, and (you guessed it) goat herders, known for its beautiful landscape, hospitable folks, and homemade pickles.
THE COOPERSON FAMILY
Mom and Pop Cooperson live in a barrel house with fifteen of their sixteen children. While Coop, their oldest child, attends the prestigious Dungeoneer Academy in the Underlands, the Coopersons ply their trade as coopers and build barrels for Rascalton and Capstan.
- Traits: Warm, hospitable, energetic and nosy kids.
- Motivation: Work hard and provide for each other, while upholding the family name.
THE HOOCH FAMILY
Run by Hank Heronimus Hooch, the Hooch farmers have a legendary knack for pickling. They can pickle just about anything for the low price of Copper •.
- Traits: Inventive, eager to share ideas, comically obsessed with pickling.
- Motivation: Be the first to pickle things never pickled before!
THE MAMMY FAMILY
Boggle goat herders, Pam Mammy, her husband Pete, and their eleven children are active in the community. When they're not tending to their herd, or those of their neighbors, they're helping their neighbors with chores like mending fences, patching roofs, and milking goats, even if they don't ask for it.
- Traits: Handy, salt of the earth, see the good in everyone.
- Motivation: Show the whole world how to do things the right way.
quests
WALTER'S GONE MISSING
Mom and Pop Cooperson are beside themselves with worry over their missing goat, Walter. Even with 15 kids searching high and low, they still haven't found him! They can't offer much, but if you find Walter around the Hamlets, Pop will share a VIP pass to the Rascal Cider Brewing Co. in Rascalton. He gets one every year for selling them barrels, but never has time to go himself.
- Locals share that Walter frequents the waterfronts: Mudwater in Goatwater (where the Cooperson kids swim and play), Widdlecrick in Widdleditch (where the Malarkey Family collects flowers), and Cheewater in Cheesehollow (where the Grubber Family does their fishing)
- Walter is near Cheewater, terrorizing a boggart fisherman named Judd by eating his lunch. Judd demands Walter be placed into custody and delivered to the River Watch.
- Walter has also swallowed the Grubber Family's River Barony Ring (see quest The Baron's Ring p205).
rumors
- The Cooperson family goat is nowhere to be found.
- Hank Hooch the pickler went and pickled himself!
A BIT OF A PICKLE
Hilga Hooch needs help right away. Her husband Hank got some wild idea that if he partnered up with a WITCH, he'd end up with the best pickling recipe in the Land of Eem. But it all went to Hetch and Pete accidentally pickled himself. He's alive, but not doing well. Find a cure and receive 3 jars of Hooch Pickles (Gourmet Rations).
- The WITCH, a human named Olgid the Ochre, has lived on the outskirts of Widdleditch for as long as anyone can remember. She claims that if Hank hadn't flubbed the recipe, he'd be fine. Now the only recourse is to de-pickle him by rubbing him down in CRIMSONHOOK and bathing in bogwater for 12 hours in the Quagmash.
- All manner of creatures and critters are attracted to Hank while he's de-pickling in the bogwater. Every 4 hours, roll a Wandering Intruder (see Bestiary Vol. 1).
widdleditch
A village in relative disrepair mostly made up of asparagus and artichoke patches. The locals are often transient and aside from a few families, most folk have moved on to greener pastures or work jobs that require them to travel outside of the Hamlets.
THE MALARKEY FAMILY
Clef and Deitra Malarkey, while nice enough, are infamous for their kids who each became wanted charlatans and grifters. No one's heard from Shuke in years, Smiley is in Anchorbottom in the Scalawag Strand, and Keef—a former Tricky Toe member—just moved back home in shame.
- Traits: Reserved, destitute, chip on their shoulder.
- Motivation: Ensure Keef returns to an honest living.
THE SHUCKS FAMILY
A family of artichoke and asparagus farmers, the Shucks cause a ruckus at the crack of dawn each day. Between the crowing roosters, barking doggarts, and blasting blunderbusses to scare off predators, the Shucks are an endless source of disruption in an otherwise sleepy village.
- Traits: Loud, absorbed in their work, rambunctious animals.
- Motivation: Get things done! Widdleditch has gone downhill and the Shucks family has a lot of work to do to clean it up again.
THE GARGLETEETH FAMILY
The only goblins in the hamlets, Gree and Juniper Gargleteeth are a married couple who earn a living as salvage divers. Local favorites among the children of the Hamlets, the Gargleteeths travel around River Country for long periods of time before settling back home for winter where they share the stories of their adventures with their neighbors.
- Traits: Adventurous, worldly, whistle through their teeth.
- Motivation: Scratch their itch for excitement until they have enough saved for retirement.
quests
TURNING OVER A NEW KEEF
Clef and Deitra want nothing to do with their criminal sons. Shuke, the oldest, has been missing for years, and Smiley is probably some kind of pirate in Anchorbottom, but Keef has just moved back home after bottoming out with the infamous Tricky Toe Gang. Clef and Deitra are embarrassed and disappointed, but after some soul searching they're hoping to turn their family name around, starting with Keef. Clef wants you to find Keef some honest work, while Deitra is hoping that you wouldn't mind letting Keef tag along and act as role models. They don't have much, but the Malarkeys are happy to give you some of Shuke Malarkey's old possessions he left behind.
- Keef follows the PCs until he has gotten a steady job and learned each of the PC's Ideals from example.
- Keef mimics PC Flaws to complicate situations
rumors
- Keef Malarkey has returned to the Hamlets after becoming a Tricky Toe gangster and going to prison. because he doesn't really know any better.
- Once Keef has performed all the PC's individual Ideals and has a job, the Malarkeys give the PCs an Old Hoard that Shuke Malarkey kept under his bed.
A PACKAGE FOR THE STRAND
Gree and Juniper Gargleteeth salvaged a piece of an old stone tablet that may be of interest to their friend Binny Tymbar who moved all the way out to Conch in the Scalawag Strand. Rumor has it, a mail service called the Welkin Post (p241) started up, but it's all the way up in the Giantstep Mountains. Kind of impractical, but it sure beats traveling to Scalawag Strand. For Copper Coins, maybe you can take the Gargleteeth's package to the Welkin Post to have it delivered?
- The stone tablet is associated with the Obelisk of Zar in the Drippy Downs (p40).
