Yrr'ghgrg

Hex 7.12. Pronounced YUR-guh-gurg—roughly translated to “hilly waypoint”—this DWEORG camp is home to the Over‑Dweorgs. At any point, the camp is packed to the gills with wagons, tents, and cages filled with mythic beasts. Since DWEORGS are a nomadic people, there is constant turnover of groups and clans, as they begin and end their meandering journeys across and below the world. Constant disagreements and fights over deals and grudges break out, leaving a need for an appointed judge of sorts, called a Krg.

The Krg is almost always an old and wizened DWEORG who has accomplished much, but whose life of travel is behind them. The Krg and their attendants, the Over-Dweorgs, are the only ones who live at the camp year round. When a Krg passes judgment, all DWEORGS generally listen without question, which often means reparations must be paid from one party to another. For more serious conflicts a Krg will demand a fight to the death, or at worst in the eyes of DWEORGS: banishment to the Overlands.

Outsiders are generally unwelcome to Yrr'ghgrg unless they are there to make a serious deal. Looky-loos who just want to browse wares and beasts should expect poor treatment.

what's going on

• The DWEORGS are capturing mythical beasts and magical creatures to sell on the open market.
• DWEORGS and the dungeoneering outfits of the Used T'Be Forest are on bad terms. What with all the raids and sabotage.
• Myro the Cartographer is commissioning an expedition to a mysterious ruin at the bottom of Nameless Lake, causing quite the stir.

1. A long queue of people wait for The Krg to make a judgment on their disputes.
2. A DWEORG beast tamer tosses a variety of food into large cages covered in tarps.
3. A SPITHRA money changer collects goods at a bartering station from a group of filthy travelers.
4. A boisterous adventurer argues with a DWEORG about the placement of their tent for the night.
5. A bored DRATCH unenthusiastically flips a sign that reads: "Myro's Map Wagon."
6. A mangy DOGGART growls and barks at the PCs as they pass the shabby tent of a scowling old wug.

rumors

• Myro the Cartographer sells old maps to forgotten places in the Drippy Downs.
• The Over Dweorgs are searching for a secret Subterranean Pits and Lairs LLC lab, said to be home to a rare breed of MUSHRUM. They say it can sniff out precious metals and gems better than any gelatinous goo.
• DWEORGS are mind-controlling local beasts, forcing them to toil away in the Underland crystal mines, just beneath the camp.

outbound rumors

• Unassailable Co. in the Used T'Be Forest is Dundurg's biggest client. They are buying magical beasts as quickly as they can be captured, but won't say why.
• A group of hunters has gone missing after an expedition to the north of the region. Among them was a loremaster with a book of mythic critters.
• A recent DWEORG clan's attempted capture of the GWARGLEBEAST at Doomnozzle went horribly awry. Many of them have gone missing.
• Mundra Mundred the Krg has placed a bounty on the head of a KOBOLD called Kleo Soothsoul for stealing a Magic item from her family. Kleo was last seen around Azimuth Outpost.

MUNDRA MUNDRED

The DWEORG Krg of the Over-Dweorgs, Mundra negotiates peace agreements between feuding dweorgs and dungeoneers of the Mucklands. She is ancient and highly respected above all other dweorgs in the Drippy Downs.

• Traits: Wizened, gravelly voice, thumps staff for effect.
• Motivation: Shepherd the Over Dweorgs in times of conflict, and preside over disputes.

DUNDURG THE KORGON-TAMER

A DWEORG beast keeper and hunter, feared by all manner of magical creatures. The title “the Korgon-Tamer” comes from Dundurg's taming of Korgon, the great FUNGHOUL behemoth who, in years past, ruled over a large swath of the Fungal Jungle. Now, the Korgon is Dundurg's servant, put to work running the beast market.

• Traits: Moody, coal-hearted, hates looky-loos.
• Motivation: Capture rare, magical beasts and make a hefty profit.

MYRO THE CARTOGRAPHER

A one-legged DWEORG mapmaker selling maps of the Underlands for the aspiring delver. Myro isn't much for small talk though, preferring his vast library of maps packed in the back of his wagon. Beware, he owns so many maps he can't keep them all straight and forgets which ones are perilous.

• Traits: Extreme hoarder, loves puzzles, forgotten more than most people know.
• Motivation: Archive the lost maps of Eem, ushering in a new era of exploration.

THE GREATEST BEAST OF ALL

Dundurg the Korgon-Tamer is hiring hunters to capture the ETTIN and in Vorg'Varga Ket (p59), or the notorious Golden WYVERN that roams the Highwilds (p44). As a reward, Dundurg offers a critter from his personal zoo: a QUOB, ROODO BIRD, or MOOSHWIMBLE.

THE CITY IN THE LAKE

Myro the Cartographer has a map of a forgotten ruin at the bottom of Nameless Lake (p46), but it is incomplete. Find a way to the bottom of the lake and finish the map.

• The ruins are home to unfriendly SCUMSEERS. They are dismantling the place piece by piece and mucking the waters.
• The SCUMSEERS are in constant war with SARPATHI REAVERS who encroach upon the ruins. They have gathered up all treasure they could find and amassed an Ancient Hoard (+2), which they guard in the center of the ruins.

AN HONEST JUDGMENT

Mundra Mundred is stuck with a most difficult judgment. Two groups, the Dweorgs of Deepwake and the Goos of Granitefoot both claim Coldar Cavern (Hex 11.11) to the east of Yrr'ghgrg as theirs. Both claims are legitimate, but if the judgment isn't fair, the two groups will go to war. Help Mundra find common ground.

• The Dweorgs of Deepwake claim Coldar Cavern as their ancestral home. There is actually a newly discovered marker that supports their claim: a Grand Krg seal. According to custom, the hammer and bell seal grants ownership of a place forever.
• The Goos of Granite claim their cavern as their rightful property. They hold a copy of Doria Deepwake's Will, which awards ownership to the Goos.
• Should both parties agree to terms, Mundra offers the Krg Stamp, which grants +1 to Parley with any DWEORG.
