Aes Kaar was a magical bronze shield (+2) carried by Baratus Archatese. The solid bronze shield was molded into the face of a roaring lion. The shield is exceptionally light, despite being evidently of solid bronze. Once per day, the shield can summon a Lion that will fight or hunt alongside the bearer. The lion appears to leap from the shield, after which the shield will appear to be flat bronze. If the Lion is killed, it immediately vanishes and cannot be summoned again for 1d4+4 days, during which its likeness will gradually re-form on the shield. Otherwise, the Lion can remain for up to one day, before it must return to the shield to rest for one full day. Aes Kaar was lost on the battlefield during the Battle of the Blood Plain in 143 AK along with Ra Shiel and was never found. TORDENVÆR Tordenvær was last wielded by Fulk the Thunderer, a legendary Northman warchief who fought on the Legendary Items “In the time of the Giant Kings there was a hero of Svaldenhiem called Skallagrim the Stormborn. He was the mightiest of all the warriors of the Fjordlands, having been mothered by the Shieldmaiden Arnkatla Sigvidotter, and sired by the Storm Giant Uglubathr. His strength and battle prowess were unmatched in all the lands. "One day the Fire Giant Gribdhor, a vassal of Skallagrim's sire, began to burn nearby villages in rebellion against his lord. Finally, Gribdhor came to Skallagrim's village and laid waste to it, killing all those he could including Skallagrim's mother, Arnkatla. Skallagrim was out raiding in the west and Uglubathr was at this time at war far to the north against the Frost Giants and could not punish Gribdhor. When Skallagrim returned from his raiding with much plunder and glory, he found his village burnt to ashes and everyone he loved dead. "Skallagrim could not contain his rage and he went to the castle of Gribdhor upon a great volcano, belching fire and ash, and there he demanded to fight the Fire Giant. Gribdhor accepted the challenge and the two fought. Their fighting was so terrible that the mountains shook with their blows. They fought on through day and night, until finally Skallagrim was victorious and the Fire Giant Gribdhor lay defeated. "When Uglubathr returned and heard of what Skallagrim had done he praised his heroic deeds and called him to his great Hall high above the clouds at the top of the mountains. There he had his smiths craft for Skallagrim a great warhammer, which he named Tordenvær." --the Fjordland Sagas Legendary Items side of Caligula against Baratus Archatese at the Battle of the Blood Plain. Accounts of the battle say that the hammer was shattered on the shield of Baratus, Aes Kaar. The fragments were never recovered, and it was assumed that the Northmen took the broken hammer back with them into the Black Forest. It is rumored that a broken shard of Tordenvær was found by Batul Stormbringer and is in her possession. Tordenvær was a Greathammer (Maul) +1 with the following abilities: Storm Aura. Once per day, if the wielder is outdoors, they can spend a full round (movement and action) to call a storm. The weather will shift, even on a sunny day, clouds will roll in, and the pressure will drop. The sky will darken, and the wind will begin howling. Dark, heavy clouds will start to rumble with thunder and flash with lightning. Tordenvær will begin to glow and vibrate, crackling with electricity. The effect can last for up to an hour, or until the wielder dismisses it. Once the effect is in place, Tordenvær is imbued with 5 charges which may be used as follows: Thunderous Smite. 1 charge may be expended on a successful hit to cause 2d6 additional electrical damage to the target. Thunderwave. By striking the ground and using 1 charge, a wave of thunderous force blasts out to a near- sized cube from the wielder. All within range must make a DEX 15 check or take 2d4 damage and be knocked prone. Once the charges are used, the Storm Aura dissipates and cannot be called on again until the next day. If the wielder chooses to dismiss the storm aura before all 5 charges are used, they are lost until the next day, when the aura can be called on again.
