Berin The Bold

Berin, son of Huguet, was a retainer at 
the court of Lord Eric II de Ardaran. He 
was Lord Eric's cousin, and his favorite 
scout, and often led scouting parties 
into the Sawtooth Hills and the Spider 
Wood on behalf of his Liege Lord.  
 
In 304 AK, Berin was on a Scouting 
mission, searching for any sign of the 
Orcish war party Lord Eric knew would 
be coming. He failed to find any sign, 
but upon his return to the Castle, the 
very war party he had been searching 
for was laying siege! The Castle fell, 
and all inside were murdered or 
enslaved. Berin blames himself in 
large part for failing to find the war 
party before they reached the 
Castle.  Rather than face his guilt, he 
refuses to talk about it.  
After the Dalelands war, Berin was 
given the Duchy of Byrth as fief, where 
he tore down the wooden Kainite fort 
that was built in the village and 
erected a stone castle overlooking the 
village and river. Construction was 
completed in 313.
