Ragnar The Usurper

Ragnar was a warrior of great renown, 
who gained both fame and fortune by 
raiding the coasts of Fianna to the 
North and Caerkult, and Gilisia to the 
South. In his youth, Ragnar's Longship 
was feared by coastal peoples far and 
wide. His reputation and renown 
attracted many warriors and ships to 
join him on his raids. Soon, his forces 
were so large that King Thorolf began 
to fear that Ragnar would take the 
throne from him. He knew that Ragnar 
desired his daughter, Una, and so he 
invited Ragnar to a feast. There he 
offered Ragnar his daughter's hand in 
marriage and his Kingdom as dowry if 

Ragnar could bring him the head of 
Gorinnyr the Life Taker, a green 
dragon that was killing farmers and 
livestock along the northwestern edge 
of the Norwood. Thorolf was sure the 
Dragon would kill Ragnar and his men, 
and thus rid him of a great rival.  
Ragnar killed the dragon. Upon 
hearing of this, King Thorolf planned a 
trap for Ragnar by luring him back to a 
feast in Ragnars Honor. Una learned of 
her father's intentions and warned 
Ragnar. Ragnar returned to the castle 
ready for the trap, and he took the 
castle by surprise and captured 
Thorolf. Thorolf was forced to 
concede his defeat. Ragnar took Una 
to wife and claimed Thorolf's Kingdom 
as his own.  
 
In his later years, Ragnar's lust for 
raiding subsided, and he focused his 
longships more on trade than pillage. 
However, the men of Aelion still have 
a reputation for raiding when it is easy 
or convenient, and trading when it is 
not. Thus, the weaker coastal villages 
of the region still have cause to fear 
the sight of a longship from Aelion.
